It should not be so much of a shock that the abandoned army depot in Romulus, NY has bad internet connectivity. After all, we are demanding a lot from a local DSL company (surprisingly, Time Warner has not assimilated this place yet) operating 25 miles away, and the wiring for this place is probably Korean War era or older. Most recently we've been operating under the assumption that the "internet is down," a comforting phrase that more or less indicates that everything's going properly. When the "internet is up," you have to start watching for weird things to start breaking.
Anyway, one of the guys took some time to write an internet monitor to let everybody know whether the internet is working or not:

The screen slowly flashes green when everything's ok, and red when the internet is fubar-ed.
Oh and by the way, it rains in our building, so we always know what the weather's like outside. The weird part is that it sometimes rains in our building when it's not raining outside. There's no water leak, so I have yet to figure that one out.
